Southbank welcomes CNN on Call to Earth Day!
Wednesday, 4th December was Call to Earth Day and CNN reporter, Anna Stewart, came to Southbank Westminster to speak to our teachers and students on how their teaching and learning helps them to address environmental issues and sustainability.
Humanities teacher, Mr Tom Lenham explained that students were looking at the role the WEF (Water-Energy-Food) Nexus plays and how it links into the sustainable development approach. Students were playing the hexagon connection game and they demonstrated how this helped them to grasp complex issues and to think differently about sustainability.
Anna then spoke to students about their Creativity Activity Service (CAS) projects, which is one of the three core components of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. It encourages students to engage in meaningful experiences beyond the classroom to promote personal growth, community involvement, and global citizenship. The students talked about their upcoming trip to Kenya and its objectives, which include a focus on sustainability, cultural immersion, and community impact. Students spoke about the fundraising events they’ve arranged to raise funds to support the two schools we’ve partnered with in Kenya. They hope to raise enough money in order to give them the things they need, such as school equipment and water pumps.
