Welcome to Southbank International School
We are London's leading International Baccalaureate (IB) School, offering a different approach to academic excellence for children aged 2*-18
At our Central London campuses in Hampstead, Kensington and Westminster, we nurture talent, celebrate individuality and develop curious, inquisitive and constantly challenging minds. Our students consistently achieve outstanding results and first-choice university offers.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is enjoyed by both international learners and those who have not previously studied the IB, including children moving over from private primary or secondary schools. The IB aims to do more than other curricula. It builds students critical thinking skills, nurtures their curiosity and their ability to solve complex problems.
Through a commitment to academic excellence and a uniquely liberal ethos, the IB also develops students with an inner belief in themselves. Southbank students have an openness to the outside world and a desire to give back to communities on a local, national and global level.

IB Diploma results 2024
100% Pass Rate For The IB Diploma
We are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our students in the IBDP results.
Out of the 86 diploma students who participated, one of our biggest cohorts to date, 100% successfully passed and 86% scored higher than the world average (30.32), our Southbank average is 36. This is a remarkable feat and something we are extremely proud of.
*A score of 34-37 in the IB is roughly equivalent to AAA at A-Level. These comparisons are approximations and can vary by subject and university.
Congratualtions to our Class of 2024 for achieving such fantastic IB Diploma results which reflect their phenomenal academic performance.
A different approach to academic excellence.
"A school for students who think differently, challenge confidently, dream bigger, question more, explore further."

As part of their exploration of the Arts as an Area of Knowledge, Grade 11 Theory of Knowledge (ToK) students recently engaged in a dynamic, hands-on art experience that deepened their understanding of artistic value, meaning, and interpretation. In a creative and lively classroom session, students were challenged to create a work of art using only materials available in the room. Working individually or in small groups, they had just 30 minutes to construct their pieces, followed by a brief rationale explaining why their creation could be considered “art” and what message or meaning it conveyed.
The session culminated in a student-led art show, where all artworks were displayed and appreciated. Peers voted on the most impactful piece, sparking meaningful conversation about what constitutes “good” art and how we judge its worth. The follow-up discussion addressed key questions in the ToK curriculum, such as: How do we know something is art? What makes art valuable? Who decides what is ‘good’ art?
Many of the student pieces carried powerful social and emotional messages, which made the experience especially engaging. Students reflected on how the underlying meanings and intentions behind the artworks heightened their appreciation and connection to the pieces. This experiential lesson not only brought the theoretical aspects of art into a real-world context but also encouraged students to think critically and creatively about the ways in which art communicates knowledge and emotion.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025! 🎉
Last Friday, we celebrated our incredible graduates on a beautiful day filled with joy, reflection, and well-deserved recognition. It marked the end of their IB Diploma journey and the beginning of exciting new adventures ahead.
The ceremony featured heartfelt speeches from students, Grade Leaders, and our Principal — with a special guest appearance by Southbank alum Mr. Hardy Hewson (Class of 2015)! Musical performances, awards, and a fun-filled prom made the day unforgettable.
Though we’re sad to see them go, remember: once a Southbanker, always a Southbanker!
Wishing our graduates all the best for the future — and good luck on results day!

Between April 24–26, our Grade 10 students took on the South Downs for their The Duke of Edinburgh`s Award(DofE) Practice Expedition — a three-day, two-night self-supported adventure!
With heavy packs and high spirits, they navigated hills, camped under the stars, and tackled the challenges of long-distance hiking with resilience and teamwork. Aside from a few blisters and tired feet, the journey was a success — and a perfect prep for their final expedition in June.
Expedition leaders praised the group as a true credit to Southbank, noting their positive attitude, campsite etiquette, and commitment to the ‘leave no trace’ principle, which earned respect from fellow campers and staff alike.
With cooperative weather and even better camaraderie, it was an unforgettable experience. Here`s to blue skies and more milestones in June!

🎉 MedCup Magic in Verona! ⚽🏆
What a debut! Last week, our #Westminster campus took both U14 boys’ and girls’ Sharks teams to the MedCup in Verona – our first time at this prestigious international tournament featuring 32 schools from 17 countries.
Our boys battled fiercely in the 8-a-side tournament, navigating highs and lows to reach the Champions League final – finishing 10th out of 31 teams! A hard-fought draw led to a nail-biting penalty shootout where they narrowly lost 5-4, but the heart and bravery (including penalties from our Grade 6 players!) made us immensely proud.
The U14 girls stormed through the group stages, battled powerhouses from Berlin and Geneva, and stunned everyone in the Elite League final, beating the reigning champions 1-0! First time entering, and they came home tournament winners! 💪🔥
Incredible teamwork, grit, and sportsmanship all around – Southbank spirit was on full display. 💙 A huge well done and congrats to our Sharks!

Our #Westminster Grade 7 students recently took on a bold interdisciplinary challenge through the IB MYP, combining Individuals & Societies with Design to reimagine Minecraft models as sustainable, real-world structures.
Inspired by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, they explored social, environmental, and economic impact—all while collaborating across disciplines. This hands-on experience is a powerful example of how interdisciplinary learning equips students to tackle real-world challenges beyond classroom walls.

Our #Kensington Grade 4 are two weeks into their ‘Sharing the Planet’ Unit of Inquiry, with the central idea: "The carbon cycle and human activity are interconnected."
Last week, they visited the Wetlands Centre in Barnes, where they:
🧪 Collected and identified pond life
📊 Graphed predicted impacts of climate change on pond populations
🌾 Learned how wetlands store carbon and support biodiversity
Back in class, students have:
🔁 Created their own carbon cycle diagrams
🧠 Used the “See, Think, Me, We” routine to explore global pollution images
📚 Investigated words like “biodiversity” and “photosynthesis” to uncover their deeper meanings through word inquiry
This has been such an exciting, eye-opening start to a powerful unit!
